School of Liberal Arts

The School of Liberal Arts seeks to fulfill three educational purposes:

1. To free the mind from ignorance and error;
2. To foster self-discovery and personal development; and
3. To promote understanding of the world and one's place in it.
   

Through its educational activities, the School’s faculty:

1. Develop students’ capacity to investigate, evaluate, communicate, and reason;
2. Establish close relationships with students;
3. Set challenging academic standards; and
4. Encourage active, collaborative learning.
   

Through their scholarly activities, the School’s faculty:

1. Enrich their teaching;
   
2. Advance and synthesize knowledge in their disciplines;
3. Apply that knowledge to socially consequential problems; and
4. Advance the scholarship of teaching and learning.
   

Through the study of academic fields in the fine arts, social sciences,
and humanities, students:

1. Complete a degree in their chosen academic area;
2. Acquire lifelong skills in critical thinking, written expression, logical analysis, information gathering, and interpersonal communication; and
3. Become responsible members of the communities in which they learn, live, and work.
